RENGE-JI

Renge-ji temple was founded in 1662 in the north-east outskirts of Kyoto and belongs to the Tendai sect of Zen Buddhism. The pond garden in front of the Study Hall was created by Ishikawa Jozan. It features a bridge, a stone lantern and a ship stone. The garden was designed to be observed from the veranda of the study room. The best time for visiting the garden is in late November when maple leaves turn to yellow and red.
