DAIGO-JI

Temple Daigo-ji a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a large temple complex divided in two grounds. The lower section contains most of the temple buildings. Among them Benten-do Hall with a lake and a bridge. In the second part a trail leads up to the temple Sanbo-in on the top of the mountain. The history of the temple starts in 874 by the erection of a hermitage. Temple Daigo-ji was built in the 12th century and the current temple with its sumptuous garden was constructed in 1598 by Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
